Law firm updates
Lyons Gaddis announced Dec. 3 that Kennedy Sheetz, a 2024 graduate of the University of Colorado School of Law, has joined the firm’s real estate and business transactions group. Previously, Sheetz was a full-time law clerk for the firm and a legal extern for the 20th Judicial District Court. Sheetz is a member of the Boulder County Bar Association, the Colorado Women’s Bar Association and the Colorado Bar Association. She’s also a PTech mentor at Longmont High School and president of the Women’s Law Caucus.
On Dec. 5, VF Law announced the addition of Lee Freedman as of counsel in the firm’s Colorado office. Freedman has nearly 30 years of experience in community association law, insurance recovery, construction defect litigation, real estate and corporate transactions. Prior to joining VF Law, he was a founding partner of WF Legal and practiced in boutique law firms in California and Colorado, specializing in community association law, alternative medicine law, and other corporate litigation, employment and transactional matters. Freedman graduated from the University of Colorado with a bachelor’s degree in marketing and finance, and received his law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law in Spokane, Washington.
The judiciary
The judicial branch announced the 4th Judicial District will host a Second Chances Warrant Clearance and Community Resource Day for El Paso and Teller counties on Dec. 6. Participants can work with community partners to have their outstanding warrants cleared. Second Chances will be held on Dec. 6, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the El Paso County Courthouse at 270 S. Tejon St. in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The courts, public defenders, and district attorneys for the 4th Judicial District will come together to help people clear their warrants, including those for probation violations and connect with resources to move forward and resolve their legal matters successfully. Offenses eligible for warrant clearance include municipal, misdemeanor or traffic offenses, class 4 drug felonies and class 5 and 6 felonies. Ineligible offenses include any warrants for the Victim Rights Act, felonies, assault, domestic violence, unlawful sexual behavior, child abuse, careless driving involving death cases and juveniles with no parent or guardian present.
