Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck announced April 1 that Polly Swartzfager has joined the firm as a shareholder in its corporate department. Swartzfager provides ongoing counsel on corporate governance and general business matters, drawing on a broad-based industry background that includes industrial products and services, construction and energy services, natural resources and metals, technology, cybersecurity and health care. Swartzfager earned her bachelor’s degree from Colorado College and her MBA and J.D. from Stanford University.

Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP announced April 2 that corporate partner Hendrik Jordaan has joined the firm’s mergers and acquisitions practice in its Denver office. Jordaan brings more than 25 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, private credit as well as a perspective as a CEO, investor and entrepreneur to the role. 

The judiciary

The Colorado Judicial Department opened the application period for grants from the Eviction Legal Defense Fund. The grants provide funding to Colorado nonprofit organizations that assist low-income individuals who are experiencing eviction or are at immediate risk of eviction. Funding available for the upcoming grant cycle is expected to be $1.1 million. 

The judicial department also opened the application period for grants from the Family Violence Justice Fund. The grants provide funding to Colorado nonprofit organizations that help low-income people who are experiencing family violence. Funding available for the upcoming grant cycle is expected to be $2.1 million.

Messner Reeves LLP, a national business law firm, announced April 2 that it’s celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The firm opened its doors on April 1, 1995, as an entrepreneurial startup law firm with a small team of attorneys. Today, the firm also has attorneys practicing business law, commercial real estate, intellectual property and litigation. Messner Reeves has grown from one office with five lawyers to more than 140 attorneys in 10 offices in Colorado, California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Washington, D.C. and New York.
