Ballard Spahr announced that Robert Lieber Jr. has joined its litigation department and consumer financial services group as of counsel in the firm’s Denver office. Lieber is the fourth consumer financial services attorney to join the Denver office in 2024, following partners Mike Kilgarriff and Joseph Schuster and associate Daniel Wilkinson. He is the second consumer financial services attorney to join the firm in the past month, with Angela Scott joining the firm’s Los Angeles office in November. Lieber joined Ballard Spahr from Blank Rome.

Holland & Hart announced Jan. 2 that three associates joined the firm in Colorado: Alyssa McCain, Chelsea Marx and Fripp Prioleau. McCain focuses her practice on renewable energy project development and finance matters, Marx focuses on development, construction and financing of real estate projects and Prioleau focuses on public utility regulation matters. McCain and Prioleau joined the firm in Denver and Marx joined the Boulder office. 

The judiciary

The 2nd Judicial District Nominating Commission will meet on Feb. 4 at the Denver City and County Building to interview and select nominees for appointment by the governor to the office of district court judge for the 2nd Judicial District serving Denver County. The vacancy will be created by the resignation of Judge Darryl Shockley. The vacancy will occur on Feb. 1. Applications must be emailed to the address listed in the instructions no later than Jan. 21 at 4 p.m. Late applications will not be considered. Any person wishing to suggest a candidate to fill the vacancy may do so by letter to be submitted to any member of the nominating commission, with a copy to the ex officio chair, no later than Jan.14 at 4 p.m. The members of the nominating commission for the 2nd Judicial District are: Kiel Brunner, Michael Carrigan, Justin Marceau, Maria Garcia Berry, L. Roger Hutson, Megan Garnett and Josett Valdez, all of Denver.

Gov. Jared Polis on Dec. 31 appointed Magistrate Kristen Tarrin to the Dolores County Court in the 22nd Judicial District, filling the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Ian MacClaren to the Montezuma County Court. Tarrin’s appointment is effective immediately. Tarrin is a magistrate in the 22nd Judicial District, a position she has held since 2023. Her docket consists of domestic and juvenile matters. Tarrin is also a child and family investigator, guardian ad litem, attorney and mediator at McLaughlin Tarrin Law, LLC, all positions she has held since 2021. Previously, she was a child and family investigator from 2020 to 2021, mediator from 2010 to 2021 and associate attorney from 2007 to 2021 at Pitler and Associates, P.C. Tarrin earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1991 and her J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2006.
