Recht Kornfeld PC announced Jan. 8 that Lara Marks Baker, an attorney who focuses her practice on criminal defense and Title IX litigation, has joined the firm as a shareholder. Baker has extensive experience in both state and federal courts.
Baker’s career has included complex and high-profile criminal cases, along with Title IX and regulatory investigations. She has also represented clients in matters involving the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, educational institutions, the Colorado Department of Human Services and the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. Baker combines diplomacy, trial skills and attention to detail in her criminal defense work.
“I am honored to join Recht Kornfeld, a firm that shares my commitment to client service and community impact,” Baker said in a press release. “I look forward to working with my new colleagues to continue delivering exceptional legal representation while expanding my work in juvenile justice.”
Baker has contributed significantly to juvenile justice education in Colorado. She developed and leads the Juvenile Justice Symposium, a program that educates college, high school and middle school students and families about criminal and juvenile law, school discipline and the potential legal consequences of student behavior. Tens of thousands of students have attended her presentations, which highlight how the criminal justice system applies to young people and the impact of school discipline on their lives.
Baker received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado Boulder. Several organizations have recognized Baker for her legal work.
In addition to her legal practice, Baker has held several leadership roles in the community. She was appointed by the Colorado Department of Higher Education to the State Legislature’s Advisory Committee for Sexual Misconduct/Title IX Matters, a position she still holds. She served as president of the Cherry Creek Academy Board of Directors and the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar Board of Directors. She was also a member of the University of Colorado Joint Task Force with Boulder District Attorney for Student Athletes and a board member on the Anti-Defamation League’s Glass Partners-in-Leadership Institute.
