Gov. Jared Polis on Jan. 4 appointed Magistrate Judge Elizabeth McCarthy to the Denver Juvenile Court in the 2nd Judicial District. The vacancy was created by the appointment of Judge Pax Moultrie to the Colorado Court of Appeals. McCarthy is a magistrate in Denver Juvenile Court, a position she’s held since 2019.
Previously, McCarthy was a senior assistant attorney general from 2016 to 2019 and assistant AG from 2011 to 2016 at the Colorado Department of Law, municipal prosecutor at the Lakewood City Attorney’s Office from 2007 to 2008 and again in 2010 and deputy district attorney at the Denver District Attorney’s Office from 2008 to 2009. McCarthy earned her law degree from the University of Colorado Law School.
Polis also appointed Magistrate Judge Christina Apostoli to the Arapahoe County Court in the 18th Judicial District. The vacancy was created by the appointment of Judge Chantel Contiguglia to the 1st Judicial District Court. Apostoli is a district court magistrate in the 18th Judicial District, a position she’s held since 2011 with her docket consisting of protective proceedings, including mental health, probate and paternity cases.
Previously, Apostoli was a district court magistrate in the 17th Judicial District from 2010 to 2011, associate at The Harris Law Firm from 2009 to 2010, deputy DA in the 18th Judicial District from 2002 to 2009 and staff attorney at El Paso Legal Assistance Society from 2000 to 2002. Apostoli earned her law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law.
