Gov. Polis Appoints LaQunya Baker to the Arapahoe County Court

Gov. Jared Polis on June 2 appointed LaQunya Baker to the Arapahoe County Court in the 18th Judicial District. The vacancy is created by the resignation of Judge Anne Ollada and is effective July 1.  

Baker is partner and co-owner of Baker Oliver Simpson Law PLLC, a position she has held since 2019. Her practice consists of criminal defense. She is also a visiting assistant professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, a position she has held since 2021. Previously, she was a civil litigation associate with Senter, Goldfarb and Rice, LLC from 2019 to 2020, chief litigation associate with Whitcomb Selinsky, P.C. from 2018 to 2019 and a trial attorney with the Colorado State Public Defender in the First Judicial District from 2016 to 2018. 


Baker earned her bachelor’s degree from The College of Charleston in 2013 and her J.D. from the Charlotte School of Law in 2016. She was selected over two other finalists, Christina Apostoli and Michael Carter, selected by the 18th Judicial District Nominating Commission.
