Gov. Polis Appoints Jon Olafson to the 2nd Judicial District Court

Gov. Jared Polis on Oct. 27 appointed Jon Olafson to the 2nd Judicial District Court. The vacancy was created by the retirement of Judge Shelley Gilman and is effective Dec. 1. 

Olafson is a shareholder at Buchalter, PC and an adjunct professor at the University of Colorado School of Law, positions he’s held since 2023. His practice consists primarily of employment and commercial litigation, according to the announcement. 


According to a press release, he was a partner at Lewis Brisbois, Bisgaard, & Smith, LLP from 2017 to 2023; of counsel at Polsinelli, PC from 2015 to 2017; senior attorney at ALG Attorneys from 2011 to 2015; senior associate at Bustos Law Offices from 2010 to 2011; senior associate at the Law Offices of John M. Cox from 2009 to 2010; senior associate at Wilson, Elser, Moskovitz, Edelmen, & Dicker from 2006 to 2009; attorney at Walker Sewell from 2004 to 2006; attorney at McCauley, Macdonald, & Devin in 2004; and attorney at Harris, Lively, Duesler, & Hatfield from 2002 to 2004. 

Olafson earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of North Dakota in 1998 and his J.D. from Texas Tech University School of Law in 2001.
