Question 1

What is your favorite clause of the Constitution and why?

A: “Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press . . . .” I was a TV news reporter in a past life and was the direct beneficiary of that right. Democracy dies without it.

Question 2

What is your favorite restaurant and what’s your favorite thing to order there?

A: Hula pie with a side of bourbon at Duke’s in Maui. Not my favorite restaurant necessarily, but a fond food memory from the last big vacation before the pandemic.

Question 3

What’s your favorite weekend activity?

A: A couple of runs at A-Basin; afternoon 18 at Willis Case; two beers; nap.

Question 4

Which rule of evidence do you hate the most and why?

A: Rule 801, because it is often misunderstood by practitioners and (shhhh) occasionally judges. I was privileged to learn the rule and its application from the late, great Professor Sheila Hyatt.

Question 5

What’s your favorite movie or TV show?

A: Nothing against Luke Skywalker, but I’ve always been team Star Trek.
