Question 1

If you could choose to master a musical instrument that you don’t already know how to play, which one would it be and why?

A: My dad was a pianist and played Mozart’s “Turkish March” on Detroit Public TV. I took piano lessons as a kid, but it didn’t stick. I wish I could go back and master the piano.

Question 2

Which celebrity was on the posters you had hanging on your teenage bedroom wall?
A: My room was covered in Legos, and my walls were bare. I followed the Lego instructions, and then added my own ridiculous twists — like adding lasers and satellite dishes to a medieval castle. And then I’d write stories about what I built.

Question 3

What’s your favorite weekend activity?
A: I like to go rock climbing with friends and my dog Franklin. It allows me to disconnect from emails and phone calls and just be totally immersed in the moment. My favorite spot to climb is Devil’s Head in the Pike National Forest near Colorado Springs.

Question 4

Which rule of evidence do you hate the most and why?
A: This shows what a nerd I am — I actually love all the rules of evidence. I started learning them my freshman year of high school on the mock trial team and always have appreciated them for being extremely logical.

Question 5

What’s your favorite movie or TV show?

A: I really enjoyed “Better Call Saul” because I grew up in Albuquerque and used to run my own law firm like the main character, Saul Goodman. My solo practice was much less colorful than Saul’s (for instance, I never pretended to be a couple hundred people from a small town in Louisiana to get a client out of criminal charges), but I sympathized with his character having to make ends meet while running his firm out of a closet in the back of a nail salon.
