WilmerHale announced Feb. 18 that tax lawyer David Strong has joined the firm as a partner in its transactional department. Strong brings extensive experience in advising public and private clients on a wide range of corporate tax issues to the firm.

Strong will be based in the Denver office, but he is positioned to work with transaction teams across the firm.

“David’s expertise in handling complex tax issues will be a tremendous asset to our corporate clients,” Anjan Sahni, WilmerHale managing partner, said in a press release. “His addition will further enhance our ability to provide comprehensive solutions across various practice areas.”

Strong’s practice focuses on domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions; partnerships and joint ventures; spinoffs and restructurings; private equity and venture capital investments; and a wide range of debt and equity financing transactions. He routinely works with many types of businesses, ranging from small start-ups to mature midsize and large private companies, including unicorns and decacorns, as well as Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 public companies.

“David joins at an exciting time for the Corporate Practice and our Denver office, and we are thrilled to welcome him,” Mindy Sooter, partner in charge of the firm’s Denver office, said in a press release. “His addition further strengthens a practice that is essential to many clients across the firm and his experience will be invaluable as we continue to expand our presence in the region and provide top-notch services to our national clients.”

Strong’s experience spans a variety of industries and sectors, including life sciences, health care, technology, e-commerce, internet, telecommunications, consumer, manufacturing, financial services, media, entertainment, mining, natural resources and real estate.

“Virtually every client of the Corporate Practice seeks tax advice in connection with inflection points in its lifecycle, whether that be a venture financing, a merger or acquisition, a capital markets transaction or a dissolution,” Kim Wethly, chair of the firm’s tax practice, said in a press release. “We are highly impressed by the breadth of David’s substantive expertise in the corporate tax issues that most affect WilmerHale’s clients, as well as David’s ability to counsel clients through complex transactions. I am delighted that David is joining the WilmerHale tax team.”

Before joining WilmerHale, Strong was most recently a partner at another international law firm, where he focused on complex transactional tax matters. Earlier in his career, he worked on Wall Street as an investment banking professional in the mergers and acquisitions group of a global financial institution.

“I’m extremely excited to join WilmerHale, a truly dynamic and storied firm renowned for its world-class legal professionals and unwavering dedication to client service,” Strong said in a press release. “The opportunity to contribute to an expanding full-service corporate practice that is both innovative and highly respected is incredibly attractive. I look forward to working with such talented professionals and helping to drive the firm’s continued success and standards of excellence.”

Strong received his bachelor’s degrees from the University of Denver, his J.D. from Stanford Law School and his LL.M. in taxation from New York University.
