David Hsu Joins Polsinelli’s Denver Office

Am Law 100 firm Polsinelli announced May 20 it expanded its electrical engineering and computer science patent prosecution practice and welcomed David Hsu as counsel in the firm’s Denver office. Hsu is an experienced patent attorney focusing his practice on patent preparation, patent prosecution and related counseling. He represents clients in a wide range of industries, including bioinformatics, biotechnology, renewable energy, semiconductors, polymer materials, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Hsu also brings experience in technical, economic and sustainability issues to the firm’s intellectual property department, according to the announcement.

“We are excited to welcome David to the Polsinelli team — his experience in a variety of industries, ranging from plasma processing to next generation microprocessors and artificial intelligence, make him a valuable asset to our clients,” said Polsinelli’s Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Patent Prosecution Chair Gregory Durbin in a news release.


Hsu earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He then graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with his Ph.D., before receiving his J.D. at the University of Colorado School of Law. Hsu published several technical papers on biofuels and has spoken on the topic. His doctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley focused on high-pressure microplasmas.

Polsinelli noted its intellectual property department ranks nationally in Tier 1 for Patent Law, Trademark Law and Litigation – Intellectual Property in U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 “Best Law Firms.”
