On Oct. 24, 2023, Jenna Ellis pleaded guilty in the Superior Court of Fulton County, Georgia, to the felony charge of aiding and abetting false statements and writings in violation of Georgia law.
According to the disciplinary opinion, Ellis was sentenced to a five-year conditional probation. Ellis’s conviction is based on her actions in intentionally aiding and abetting Rudy Giuliani and Ray Stallings Smith III in knowingly, willfully and unlawfully making seven false statements regarding the 2020 presidential election at a Georgia Senate Judiciary Subcommittee meeting on Dec. 3, 2020. At the time, Ellis was a senior legal advisor to then-President Donald Trump and counsel to one or more persons or entities associated with his reelection campaign. Ellis attended the meeting as a lawyer and in furtherance of her work in those roles, according to the opinion.
The Presiding Disciplinary Judge approved Ellis’s stipulation to discipline and suspended her for three years. If Ellis seeks to reinstate her Colorado law license following her suspension, she must prove by clear and convincing evidence that she has been rehabilitated, has complied with all disciplinary orders and rules and is fit to practice law. Ellis’s suspension takes effect July 2.
