Court Opinion: PDJ Disbars Attorney in Reciprocal Discipline Case

Editor’s Note: Law Week Colorado edits court opinion summaries for style and, when necessary, length.

People v. Leonard DeFranco

This reciprocal discipline case arose from discipline imposed on Leonard DeFranco by the Supreme Court of Illinois, which  disbarred him on March 19, 2024, following a review board’s recommendation.

The board found that DeFranco dishonestly converted client funds for personal use and borrowed money from another client without complying with the required safeguards to protect that client’s interests.

DeFranco engaged in conduct constituting grounds for reciprocal discipline, which calls for imposition of the same discipline as that imposed in Illinois, according to the opinion.

The Presiding Disciplinary Judge approved the parties’ stipulation to discipline, imposed reciprocal discipline and disbarred DeFranco, effective Dec. 23, 2024.
