Boulder Deputy City Attorney Sandra Llanes will be returning to her hometown of Golden for the next step in her career.
Llanes recently announced she’s accepted a role as their city attorney, according to a City of Boulder press release. As part of her new position, she plans to create Golden’s first in-house legal team.
Llanes earned her law degree from the University of Colorado Law School, and started her career in Boulder more than 20 years ago as a municipal prosecutor, according to the announcement. Since then, she’s acted as lead attorney on several major project teams and programs in the community, including the annexation of CU South, the Safe and Managed Public Spaces team, the permanent outdoor dining licensing program and COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.
Boulder City Attorney Teresa Taylor Tate said in the press release that Llanes has been a strong leader in the community, and will be “incredibly missed.” But she looks forward to seeing what Llanes will accomplish next.
“I am very proud to see her take this next step in her career and can’t think of anyone better qualified to help our neighboring city of Golden create a top-notch city attorney’s office,” Taylor Tate said.
Llanes expressed gratitude towards her city colleagues, as well as a desire to put what she’s learned from them to use in her new role.
“I remain deeply indebted to everyone at Boulder for molding my journey and instilling in me the values of humble leadership, unwavering excellence in service and the importance of teamwork,” she said in the release. “As I set my sights on the City of Golden, I carry forward these invaluable lessons.”
Llane’s last day working for the City of Boulder will be Sept. 29, the announcement said.
