Bill Repealing State Immigration Laws Among Killed Bills So Far in Colorado Legislative Session

As the session nears its end, roughly 85 bills have been killed or postponed indefinitely.

One of the killed bills this year would have established serial meetings between two or more members of a state public body that individually don’t constitute a meeting of a quorum of the body, but collectively constitute a meeting of a quorum of the body, are a violation of the Colorado Open Meetings Law.

A different bill addressing the open meetings law, Senate Bill 24-157, was signed earlier on in the session by Gov. Jared Polis. That new law establishes written communication exchanged between members of the general assembly aren’t subject to COML, but any records of the communications are subject to disclosure to the extent required by the Colorado Open Records Act.

Among the PI’d bills for this session is one that would have repealed state immigration laws that prohibit a person from being arrested while they’re in a courthouse, or a probation officer from providing personal information about an individual to federal immigration authorities, among others.
