Sherman & Howard announced Nov. 11 that litigation attorneys Allison Derschang and Allison Takacs have joined its Denver office. Derschang focuses her practice on family law matters, and Takacs focuses on construction and commercial litigation.
“The addition of these two experienced litigation associates will continue to enhance our ability to serve our clients,” said Tamir Goldstein, chair of the firm’s litigation group, in a press release. “Allison and Alli bring distinct areas of practice to the firm, which strengthens our service offerings, deepens our bench, and ensures our clients receive the best possible representation.”
Derschang represents clients in all aspects of divorce and allocation of parental rights matters, including asset division, child custody, complex financial negotiations and protection orders.
“In my family law practice, clients trust me to fight for their best interests and welcome me into their lives during difficult moments,” said Derschang in a release. “It’s about people and meeting them where they are, something Sherman & Howard understands and puts into practice. The firm cares about the people and communities they serve, and I look forward to collaborating with its wonderful team of attorneys.”
Takacs focuses her practice on construction and commercial litigation matters. Before joining the firm, she represented homeowners and community associations in construction defect litigation, where she gained experience representing plaintiffs at all stages of litigation. Now transitioning to representing both plaintiffs and defendants, her experience building cases will give her perspective when advocating for her clients on the other side of the bench.
“I’ve always had a passion for weaving facts and case law together to build an argument because it feels like putting together the pieces of a puzzle to get the results you need,” said Takacs. “I’m excited to take my experience with plaintiffs and shift it over to include defense work, especially under the support of Sherman & Howard. The firm is well-known for its commitment to mentoring and valuing associates, creating an environment where I can grow my practice.”
Derschang and Takacs both received their J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where they were also members of the DU National Trial Team. Takacs currently serves as a trial advocacy adjunct professor at DU and teaches trial law to current members of the National Trial Team.
