Colorado held its second licensed legal paraprofessional exam on Nov. 12 and the results are in.
Roughly 47 people applied to take the exam, nine withdrew and 35 took the test. The exam consisted of 90 multiple-choice questions about family law, 45 ethics multiple-choice questions and two family law essays. The first set of multiple-choice questions about family law counted for 50% of the grading weight and took test takers 180 minutes. The other two sections each accounted for 25% of the final grade and both sections took 90 minutes each.
Colorado’s Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel reported 29 test takers passed the exam, which is an 83% pass rate. Roughly 17%, or six individuals, were unsuccessful.
On average, examinees in this LLP exam scored the highest on the family law multiple choice portion, followed closely by the ethics multiple-choice questions. Volunteer attorneys developed the six-hour exam focusing on core competency in line with the LLP Rules of Professional Conduct. A passing score for the new LLP exam was benchmarked at 67%, and the average score for the test was 73.76%.
The 29 examinees who passed may now pay their licensing fee, complete registration paperwork and take their oath of admission at a mandatory ceremony scheduled for Jan. 6, 2025. Registration for the ceremony is required by Jan. 2, 2025.
Congratulations to the state’s latest wave of LLPs.
