Wheeler Trigg O’Donnell and Law School Yes We Can! launched a scholarship to fund bar exam preparation, the firm announced March 5. Named the WTO Impact Scholarship, LSYWC fellows taking the Colorado Bar Exam in summer 2025 can apply through May 5.
The idea behind the new annual scholarship started with WTO associate Celyn Whitt and WTO partner Melissa Romero, who are the firm’s LSYWC liaisons.
“We recognized a lack of support for students taking the bar exam. This can be a forgotten hurdle and barrier for many students. The bar is expensive, and the future hinges on it. Passing it can bring generational change,” Whitt said in a press release about the scholarship. “The WTO Impact Scholarship reinforces WTO’s values of supporting our community through scholarships, mentorships, and advocacy.”
The scholarship, funded by WTO, will provide $3,500 to one recent or soon-to-be law school graduate. The scholarship is designed to alleviate the costs associated with bar exam fees, preparation courses and related expenses such as exam prep materials. The scholarship aims to support individuals who demonstrate a commitment to excellence, diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal profession, according to the announcement.
Fellows of the LSYWC program who apply for the scholarship will be asked to submit a 250-word essay detailing how the scholarship will impact them as they prepare for the bar exam. For more information and to apply, email Kimberle Jackson-Butler, executive director of LSYWC, at [email protected].
