Question 1

What is your favorite clause of the Constitution and why?

A: I’m not sure about a “favorite,” but with a criminal defense lawyer as a father, I knew about my Fifth Amendment right to stay silent and my Sixth Amendment right to counsel long before I could have possibly understood why someone would need to exercise those rights.

Question 2

What is your favorite restaurant and what’s your favorite thing to order there?

A: This is the hardest question on this list! Locally, I would have to say Las Delicias, where my family has been going since before I was born (go to order: carne a la tampiqueña). But some of the best food I’ve ever had was abroad: Moliendo Cafe in Cuenca, Ecuador, where I lived for years and often ordered bandeja paisa and patacon pisao, the mind-blowing escargot I had in Italy about 20 years ago, a spicy curry served on banana leaves in Maylasia, and much more!

Question 3

What’s your favorite weekend activity?

A: As someone born and raised in Denver, I feel like I should say something outdoorsy. But the truth is, my ideal weekend is spent more lazily: baking or crafting with my kids, watching a movie at night, getting a meal with a friend…

Question 4

What’s your favorite book and why?

A: I’ll admit (with a fair amount of shame) that my reading of books has significantly decreased since becoming a lawyer (we read so much already!) and having kids (uninterrupted time is… rare). But, some of my favorite books are Shantaram, 100 Years of Solitude, Middlesex, The Assassin’s Apprentice and more — I love a thriller, an underdog, and a bit of magic.

Question 5

What’s your favorite movie or TV show?

A: The easiest question on the list: Newsies, obviously! If you know, you know. A historical musical drama (what a genre!) with scrappy kids protesting and beating the man through (incredible) song and dance, great hats, Christian Bale with peak 90s hair… what else do you want?? (Well, passing the Bechdel Test would have been good… but I hold no grudges.)
