BakerHostetler associate Xakema Henderson is known around the firm as “tenacious and fearless,” and she lives up to the hype.
“There have been times in this setting where I’ve been dealing with really difficult opposing counsel and people see me, I’m young, and they make assumptions,” she said. “It’s happened a couple times where opposing counsel will say something like ‘Man you were a tough opponent.’ I can tell they underestimated me. When you’re up against someone who’s been practicing for 30 years and I’m two years in and you give them a run for their money, that feels good.”
Part of that perseverance might come from the fact that she’s known she wanted to be a lawyer since she was a kid.
“I’m the weird kid who came into law school like ‘I want to do business litigation, here I am,’” she said. “I really got lucky, I’ve been holding onto all these things I wanted to do, and I’m doing them now, and it just so happens that I like it.”
