When Judge Craig Welling first left private practice to go into public service, the plan was to only do a two-year stint working as legal counsel to Gov. Bill Ritter.
But it probably shouldn’t have seemed unusual that he would end up making a career in the public sector. He had run for city council as a college student, after all.
Now 10 years into his two-year detour from the partner track at Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons — now Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie — Welling is beginning a whole new phase of his career on the Colorado Court of Appeals.
And the newest member of the court said it’s too early to tell on many aspects of life as a judge on the bench.
