Judge Kandace Gerdes is familiar with mischief-making but more as a witness than a culprit.
In her office at the City and County Building in Denver, where the district court is housed, hangs a poster-sized photo of a rascal of a dog that she says had a hand in her appointment to the district court bench.
“His name is Mischief,” she said, fondly. “His picture is in my office every day as a reminder to be compassionate and patient.”
She adopted him in 2013 from the Dumb Friends League. Within their first week together, Mischief had dug up electrical wires in Gerdes’ yard, torn off a transformer box and chewed through all its wiring.
