LAW WEEK COLORADO
Wayne Chancellor, vice president and general counsel within one of the largest gold mining companies globally, joined Holland & Knight in Denver as a partner in its public companies and securities practice, the firm announced Monday.
“Holland & Knight provides the best platform on which to leverage the knowledge that I have gained during my 10 years in the mining industry,” Chancellor. “Its substantial presence in Colombia also was a major factor in my decision to return to private practice at the firm, given the major role that I played in helping AngloGold Ashanti build its operations in that country.”
As the senior legal officer for AngloGold Ashanti Americas, a division of AngloGold Ashanti, Chancellor was responsible for legal support to a region encompassing four countries — Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and the United States — and employing approximately 6,500 full-time employees. In that role, he provided legal counsel regarding a variety of corporate, regulatory, environmental and litigation matters. He has extensive experience with the agreements, permitting and environmental requirements, government affairs and corporate transactions associated with the various stages of the mining life cycle.
“Wayne has an impressive breadth of experience managing mining operations on a national and international basis and is a significant addition to our mining and natural resources team,” Bob Grammig, the leader of Holland & Knight’s public companies and securities practice, said. “His contacts in the industry will open doors to new clients and new opportunities for the firm throughout the United States and Latin America, but particularly in Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Chile.”
Chancellor earned a law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law, a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University and a bachelor’s degree in general engineering from the United States Military Academy. Currently, he is an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
