LAW WEEK: What are your thoughts on diversity on the bench? How is Colorado doing for representation?
GARG: I could start by saying we don’t have any South Asian judges in Colorado. That’s how that looks.
To add some perspective, SABA didn’t come into existence until the end of 2008 or the beginning of 2009, so it’s a relatively young bar association. There is a growing number of South Asian attorneys in Colorado and candidates for the bench, but we haven’t had success there yet.
Nationwide, there have been a lot of great successes on federal and state benches, so it’s promising that communities with large south Asian populations and presence have been able to break that barrier.
