Sherman & Howard now has one of the largest family law groups in Colorado.
Three attorneys joined the firm’s practice group Sept. 18 from BakerHostetler, bringing decades of combined family law experience to Sherman & Howard. Rebecca Alexander, Diane Wozniak and Marte Timmers have expertise in topics ranging from premarital agreements to business valuation and trusts. Though family law is often the realm of smaller firms, a sizable practice group fits in well at a firm of Sherman & Howard’s size. Because family cases intersect with so many other areas of law, such as real estate, business valuation and taxes, the attorneys benefit from the ability to collaborate with those in the firm’s other groups.
“That’s one of the reasons, I think, Rebecca was really interested in moving here,” said Jordan Fox, a member of the practice group. “We have such great resources and other attorneys in other groups. …“It’s an intellectually challenging and difficult job, and having others who will help for some ofthat is, I think, essential. ”He explained growing Sherman & Howard’s family law group has been important also because he has seen the complexity and size of cases grow, sometimes into the hundreds of millions of dollars, and the attorneys need each other’s expertise.
The firm’s family law practice formed in 2007 with Fox and Kelly Robinson. With the addition of Alexander, Timmers and Wozniak, the practice group now has nine attorneys.
